Dr. Comfort Ero has served as President and CEO of Crisis Group since December 2021. She first joined the organisation in 2001 as West Africa Project Director, advancing to become Africa Programme Director and, in 2021, Interim Vice President. Her career has been dedicated to working in and on conflict-affected countries. Comfort also brings experience from her roles as Deputy Africa Programme Director for the International Centre for Transitional Justice (2008–2010) and as Political Affairs Officer and Policy Advisor with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (2004–2007).
Comfort’s expertise spans conflict prevention, management, and resolution, with a focus on mediation, peacekeeping, and transitional justice. She is a published expert on these subjects, having also worked with leading institutions, including the Centre for Defence Studies at King's College London and the International Institute for Strategic Studies. A graduate of the London School of Economics, she holds a PhD from the University of London, equipping her with deep knowledge in politics and international relations.
Beyond her Crisis Group role, Comfort is an active voice in international circles, sitting on various advisory boards.
